We have been looking to introduce chicken for a while now and finally we found Pasturebird - a transparent family farm that does things the right way. Paul Grieve is the owner of the farm and you can see more of him here:
The Pasturebird chickens are raised outside on pasture 24/7/365 where they can forage for grasses, bugs, seeds, and worms. They're supplemental feed is a locally milled grain feed. The birds move to fresh pasture every single day, and they've never used a single vaccine, antibiotic, or drug since they started more than 6 years ago.
Pasturebird is a family farm that believes in the regenerative power of pasture raised livestock for land, animal, and community, and we are so happy to have the opportunity to have them be our source for truly pasture raised chicken!
The differences between a chicken from this California farm and conventionally raised chicken are numerous:
1. These chickens are always outside, they live outside on pasture 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
2. Instead of debeaking the chicks, Pasturebird’s chickens use their beaks and talons to peck and scratch for bugs, worms, grasses, seeds, and more.
3. Instead of using antibiotics to fight disease within the flock, Paul and his team use a healthy environment of pasture, sunshine, fresh air, and space to prevent sickness.
4. Instead of marketing vegetarian-fed chicken (chickens are not vegetarians), they want the chickens to eat as many bugs and worms as possible.
